We will take you on a complete South African tour but, if you want to meet the "real" people, it is our pleasure to include one special day on your travels, a day you'll remember for the rest of your life. We know this to be true, because so many have told us so.

Experience close-up how a small squatter camp community live their lives. Tourism has benefited this small community, tourists have enriched their lives. We are accepted as "members" of New Rest. Guguletu, one of the Townships of Cape Town. This is the reality of South Africa.

We do this as a day tour, but include it in all of our 14day, 16day, and 18day South African tours, Best of the Western Cape - 11 day tours.

Your Itinerary:

We will first take you to the City, where you visit the Bo-Kaap, a Moslem community, where everyone is descended from the original slaves of the Cape. Then through the Mothercity, Cape Town to see the Slave Lodge, Slave tree, City Hall, where Nelson Mandela made his first speech on being released, District 6, the most conversial area of Cape Town which was declared white by the Group Areas act in 1956 and raised to the ground. It remains undeveloped except for a few buildings.

From here we visit Athlone (a coloured area), and Rylands Estate (an Indian area). The on to the Black Townships, and the small squatter camp community of New Rest, Guguletu where we have befriended the people. See how tourism has benefitted this community, a creche is being built, brick making started, we have a couple of trained black tour guides. We will do a walkabout tour, where you can meet the people and take pictures. In fact the people will ask to be photographed.

From here we will visit a Craft market, a Sangoma (traditional healer), the Meat Street, and have a drink in the Shebeen. There is the option of a traditional lunch, or in the afternoon a boat trip to Robben Island.

Notes:
Airfare is not included in the tour price.

This tour can be done any day of the week at a cost of ZAR200 pp. The lunch and the Robben Island trip is extra and paid for by the client.
