More of a secret than Chianti, the territory which extends to the south of Sienna is one of the most refined areas for bread, wine and oil.
It is this territory, with its mild climate in the heart of Central Italy, which, in the Middle Ages, gave birth to modern art and sculpture. It is also here where the modern city originated, inspired by some of the greatest artists: Pienza, under the auspices of the 14th century Pope Pie ll; Montepulciano whose numerous palaces and churches again gave witness to the humanist city of the Renaissance; Montalcino- the last bastion of the glorious Republic of Siena; San Quirico d' Orcia…
Finally, it is a region of gastronomy with two of the greatest Italian red wines: Brunello and Vino Nobile of Montepulciano; and "pecorino", a delicious cheese made from sheep's milk. For lovers of cake there is "ricciarelli", "cavallucci" as well as "panforte".
