Experience the teeming wildlife and dramatic scenery of South Georgia and the South Orkney Islands, home to the colorful King penguin and the comical Macaroni penguin. You also visit the historic Falkland Islands, observing a great wealth of seabirds, and witness the spectacular coastline of the Antarctic Peninsula.
Your Itinerary
Day 1:
Board the 'Peregrine Endeavour' in Ushuaia, on Tierra del Fuego. Evening welcome cocktail party. 2 Sail in an easterly direction, enoying a seriese of lectures which prepare you for your forthcoming adventure. Late in the day, as you near the Falkland Islands, you can spend time on deck in awe of the Southern Ocean's wonderful bird life. 3 - 4 You reach the Falkland Islands, an archipelago of some 400 islands. See Rockhopper and Magellanic penguins, as well as Black Browed albatross. Observe King penguins and also visit Port Stanley, the smalles and most isolated capital city in the world. 5 - 7 Sale eastward again, crossing the Antarctic convergence toward the spectacular ice-crowned mountians of South Georgia. 8-10 At South Georgia, visit the remains of Grytviken, an abandoned whaling station, and also the South Georgia Whaling Museum. Visit other ports of call on South Georgia, going ashore to observe King penguins. 11 A day at sea, heading south. Your naturalists will continue their presentations, and you can go out on deck to watch the wildlife. 12 Continue your journey to the South Orkney Islands, where huge breeding grounds of Weddell seals have recently been discovered 13 Enter the region of the sea ice edge as you head for Antarctica. 14 - 18 Crossing the Scotia Sea, you enter a magical world of icebergs and ice-covered mountains as you reach the South Shetlands, and the bays and channles of the Antarctic Peninsula. Frequent shore excursions by inflatable Zodiac boats enable you to view Adelie, Chinstrap and Gentoo penguins at close range. Weather permitting, you enter the flooded caldera of Deception Islands, and may have a chance to set foot on the Antarctic continent before recrossing the Drake Passage on your way back to Ushuaia. 19 Arrive back at Ushuaia in the morning, where your cruise ends. Transfer to hotel or airport for flight back home.

Mode of Travel: 52 passenger 'Peregrine Endeavor' research vessel, and 12-15 seat 'Zodiac' inflatable boat for shore excursions.
Comment: The 'Peregrine Endeavor' is a newly renovated, sophisticated Russian ice vessel ideally suited to expedition cruising. Faster, and with more room than other Antarctic vessels, she is not only highly maneuverable but her wide beam offers a greater degree of stability and comfort. Shore excursions are split into small groups of 10-15, designed to accommodate varying interests and levels of physical activity. Traveling with just 52 passengers also allows you to spend maximum time ashore. The aim is to enjoy two to three outings per day, depending on weather and ice conditions.
Group Size: Maximum 52 passengers, however groups of 12 to 15 on shore excursions.
