Visit out of the way places and discover hidden treasures of Pennine Yorkshire.

Your Itinerary

Day 1: Deep in the dramatically beautiful Pennine hills you'll arrive amongst the unique double-decker houses. After a "reet" good Yorkshire welcome perhaps a little time to explore the pretty cotton mill town of Hebden Bridge. Includes: (D).

Day 2: Past canal locks and traditional longboats - a forgotten mode of transport - and the old mullioned windows of hand loom weavers cottages to the fine church ruins of cobbled Heptonstall, former family home of the Poet Laureate - Yorkshireman Ted Hughes. Includes: (B), (L), (D).

Day 3: High up with the groose on Haworth Moor we drink in breathtaking views en route to Haworth village, a tiny mill town clinging to the side of the hills. The former home of The Bronte sisters, their inspiration arose here in this wild, heather-clad walkers' paradise. A rare treat as we board the fantastic Keithley and Worth Valley Steam Railway, chugging through scenery and old stations made famous in many a film, including "The Railway Children". Includes: (B), (L), (D).

Day 4: Hiking past the curiously named "Cow and Calf" rocks, we journey through countryside rich in prehistoric art to the busy little township of Ilkley. With time to look around the interesting shops. The Grove, the main street of this thriving former spa town, you'll no doubt go to bed humming Yorkshire's national anthem "On Ilkley Moor Baht 'at."! Includes: (B), (L), (D).

Day 5: Over becks, streams to the impressive ruins of the Augustinian Priory at Bolton Abbey in delightful Wharfedale. On the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, amble through woodland and over the curlew-haunted limestone moors of the Duke of Devonshire's estate. Includes: (B), (L), (D).

Day 6: Today's walk explores dramatic Pennine Yorkshire further, past dry stone walls and fields dotted with sheep. A fine days walking ends in the Victorian spa of Harrogate with its elegant stores, Royal Pump Rooms, gardens and parks. Includes: (B), (L), (D).

Day 7: A extended stay in James Herriot's Yorkshire or explore the Pennines of the Brontes further. Or maybe even a day at the Races? Includes: (B).
