The Arrigetch (a native name meaning fingers of the hand extended) are spectacular towers of black granite and will leave you speechless. We will be dropped off at a small lake along side the Alatna River at the height of fall colors. The famous Alaskan mosquitoes have died off and have been replaced by migrating caribou heading south to wintering grounds. The colors that echo across the landscape during the day get replaced by equally wonderful and colorful displays in the sky at night.

The first week of the trip we will hike up Arrigetch Creek to the vicinity of the imposing Arregetch peaks and base camp there for day hikes. The last three days we will drift a short 20 mile section down the placid Alatna to our pickup lake. This is clearly a great way to high grade the Gates of the Arctic National Park for its finest treasures. Combining it with the Upper Alatna trip and you will create an unsurpassed outing of a lifetime (August 18 - September 3).

Your Itinerary:

Day 1:
Leave Fairbanks on scheduled flight to Bettles located on the southern flank of the Brooks Range and gateway to the Gates of the Arctic NP. Shuttle to the put-in in smaller air taxi service - spectacular scenery. Establish camp. Local day hike.
