Adventure and exclusivity abounds in this well-rounded safari that combines the thrills of Victoria Falls with the slower pace of a walking safari in a scenic national park. The Victoria Falls area (also known as the adrenalin capital of the world) offers white water rafting, bungi jumping, canoeing, village visits, shopping; elephant back safaris and much more. Then, head out into the bush for an unforgettable walking safari. Professional guided walking gives you the opportunity to feel the heartbeat of the bush and experience a safari that most people only dream of.

Your Itinerary:

Day 1 - Arrive Livingstone, Zambia

Upon arrival at Livingstone Airport, you will be met and transferred to Sussi and Chuma Lodge, on the banks of the Zambezi River. During the next two days your activities will include: game drives/walks with experienced guides, visits to the Falls themselves, boat cruises, fishing and an optional choice of all the “adrenaline activities” for which the area is famous. Sussi & Chuma Lodge. Includes: (D).

Fill up your senses with a night in the forest canopy: luxuriate in your beautiful tree house overlooking the broad Zambezi River, just upstream of the Falls themselves. Sussi & Chuma, named after David Livingstone’s faithful friends, consists of an exclusive, upscale lodge, which takes full advantage of its enchanting riverbank setting. All tree houses have en-suite toilet, basin, shower & bath, private viewing deck, mini bar, mosquito nets, overhead fans, tea & coffee making facilities, hair dryer. The lodge also offers a swimming pool, gift shop, and evening campfires.

Day 2 - Victoria Falls

Another day of excitement and romance on the banks of Africa’s most spectacular river. Choose among the following activities: A guided tour of Victoria Falls and rain forest on the Zambian side; game drive in the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park where Zambia's only white rhino can be spotted; a cultural tour of Livingstone including a visit to the Museum and The Maramba Village; a shopping tour in Livingstone Town; an early morning or sunset river cruise; or fishing in the Zambezi River. Other activities that can be arranged for an additional cost include whitewater rafting, canoeing, helicopter and micro light flights, horseback safaris, elephant back safaris, and bungi jumping. Sussi & Chuma Lodge. Includes: (B), (L), (D).

Day 3 - Livingstone - Puku Ridge Camp

After breakfast, transfer to Livingstone Airport for your flight to Puku Ridge Tented Camp in the South Luangwa National Park. Your camp here consists of traditional, spacious, walk-in canvas safari tents. The option is open to either drive in an open safari vehicle or to walk under the guidance of your professional guide in one of the most scenic national parks in Zambia. Puku Ridge Tented Camp. Includes: (B), (L), (D).

For millennia, this low, rocky ridge has overlooked the wide, water-rich valley. From this vantage point among the trees, predators and hunters would quietly observe the prolific hunting grounds spread out below. But now visitors come to Puku Ridge to revel in the abundance of wildlife and the comforts of a traditional old-world safari camp. Named for the elusive Puku antelope, which never strays far from water, this beautiful camp among the trees overlooks a sweeping expanse of the fertile Kakumbi dambo (valley). Here, the living is easy for both visitors and wildlife. The diverse wildlife along the dambo offers great opportunities for photography, whether you choose to explore on foot with a keen-eyed guide, or range further afield in a safari vehicle. And in the evenings, you dine with the night sounds of Africa for a soundtrack. Puku Ridge inhabits a remote world of its own, watching the ancient patterns of life and survival while treating its visitors to enjoyably civilized hospitality.

Puku Ridge Tented Camp is small and intimate, built unobtrusively close to the wild. Each of the six comfortably furnished safari tents has its own lavish bathroom, which provides the option of taking a shower with the sun on your shoulders. Accommodations consist of six spacious walk-in canvas safari tents with a wraparound view of the flood plains below. Each tent contains private bathroom facilities - toilet, basin, indoor and outdoor showers and sunken bath – as well as two double or king size beds, mosquito nets, private verandah, ceiling fans, and hair dryers. Well-lit pathways cleared of undergrowth connect the tents to the main bar/lounge. The natural vegetation has been left as undisturbed as possible.

Days 4-5 - Walking Safari

A grand opportunity during these two days for walking safaris in the flood plains. Good sightings of elephants, lion, leopard, wild dog, buffalo, and giraffe. Your choice of exploring this remote area by foot or by safari vehicle. Puku Ridge Tented Camp. Includes: (B), (L), (D).

Day 6 - Chichele Presidential Lodge

Transfer by road to Chichele Presidential Lodge. The lodge has a magnificent hilltop site with sumptuous, air-conditioned accommodation. A turn of the century hunting lodge atmosphere completes the picture. South Luangwa is one of the greatest wildlife sanctuaries in the world, due to the concentrations of game around the Luangwa River and its ox-bow lagoons. In addition, the topography of the area makes it ideal for walking safaris, allowing guests to explore the river and its tributaries in the care of an experienced guide. The park is noted for its big game species, particularly leopard, lion, and elephant, and a whole host of antelope species. Wildlife to be seen includes elephant, lion, wild dog, buffalo, giraffe, and a wide variety of antelope in addition to many other endemic species. Night drives using spotlights enable guests to see such nocturnal animals as leopard, night ape, and spotted hyena. Chichele Presidential Lodge. Includes: (B), (L), (D).

The South Luangwa National Park is a place of primeval forest and lush savanna, stretching for hundreds of miles and encompassing the Luangwa River basin, its adjacent highlands and a mosaic of different habitats extending outwards from the central river. Formerly a private Presidential retreat, Chichele (pronounce to rhyme with belly) occupies one of the most breathtaking sites in the entire park. The lodge, built in the 1960s, has undergone a complete transformation; it now has a spectacular new central lodge of stone and thatch, designed to complement its natural surroundings. In order to exploit the wonderful floodplain vistas offered by the site, 10 elegant Victorian-style lodges were built along the edge of the hillside, each giving guests a private panoramic view. Quality furnishings and discreet service will provide the necessary level of comfort expected by the upscale visitor.

Days 7-8 - Walking Safari

Two more days spent walking and driving in this special sanctuary. Bird watching is good here, as the park is home to 400 of Zambia’s 732 bird species. Be sure to look for Thornicroft’s giraffe, which is unique to the Luangwa Valley. Chichele Presidential Lodge. Includes: (B), (L), (D).

Day 9 - Mfuwe - Lusak - Depart

After breakfast, transfer back to Mfuwe for your flight to Lusaka International Airport and onward connections. This safari can also be combined with any of our Botswana, Namibia or South Africa programs, before or after this safari. Includes: (B).
