Your Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Cagliari by air. Drive straight to the 3500 BC necropolis of Montessu. The tombs are cut into the rock in two natural amphitheaters. Lunch in a local restaurant. In the afternoon, visit the south-west region of the island. Return to Cagliari via the picturesque Costa del Sud. Dinner in a local restaurant. Includes: (B), (L), (D);
Day 2: See Cagliari - ancient Karalis founded by the Phoenicians. The modern city surrounds the fortified medieval center with its 13th century Pisan towers. The archaeological museum exhibits 1800 BC bronzes from the mysterious Sardinian Nuragic culture. Lunch in a local restaurant. In the afternoon visit the 2000 year- old ruins of the Punic and Roman port city of Nora. Overnight in Cagliari. Includes: (B), (L);
Day 3: Leave Cagliari for Barumini. On the way, visit Pranu Multeddu 5000 year-old mysterious megaliths set in the wooded high-lands. From there on to Barumini where you will visit the nuraghe village of Su Nuraxi. The 7000 nuraghe scattered over the island are the very symbol of pre-historic Sardinia. Lunch in a local restaurant. Afternoon excursion to the beautiful and ever sacred Giara di Gesturi plateau. Dinner and overnight in Arborea near Oristano. Includes: (B), (L),(D);
Day 4: Leave Arborea for Cala Gonone. Visit the ruins of 7th century BC Tharros and the ancient pagan, and later Christian, sacred site of San Salvatore on the way. Box lunch in Santa Cristina. In the afternoon, visit the Ethnographic Museum in Nuoro with its exhibits of popular Sardinian culture ancient and modern. Visit the sacred well of Santa Cristina : living proof of the enduring tradition of sacred places from pre-historic times to the present. Dinner and overnight in Oliena. Includes: (B), (L), (D);
Day 5: From Oliena to Alghero. In the morning see the caves of Ispinigoli. Shepherd’s lunch in a local rustic farm-house. Return on the scenic route, through Sardinia's Barbagia heart-land, to Alghero. Includes: (B), (L);
Day 6: From Alghero to Palau. Free time in the morning to stroll around the sea-side town of Alghero - famous for its local crafts and for its coral. Lunch in a local restaurant. In the afternoon, visit the Anghelo Ruju necropolis and the 12th century Romanesque church of Santa Trinità di Saccargia nestling quaintly in a small valley. On to Palau through the unique volcanic and wooded scenery of this area. Dinner and overnight in the hotel. Includes: (B), (L), (D);
Day 7: Take the ferry from Palau to the Maddalena archipelago - some of the most beautiful beaches and rock formations in the world. Return to the hotel for lunch. In the afternoon, see the ancient Tomb of the Giants of Coddu Vecchiu. Transfer to Olbia airport for departure visiting the beautiful Costa Smeralda on the way. Includes: (B), (L).
