Five day rock and ice climbing courses for beginners and intermediates in the Mt Blanc range in the French alps.
Tour itinerary is for a typical course. Courses are tailored to students requirements. For example, more or less ice climbing can be scheduled and climbs can be more difficult than those described.
Courses can be planned for any number of days.
Your Itinerary
Day 1:
We meet the day before the course. The first day offers beginning or intermediate rock climbing instruction at the nearby Gaillands crag, a delightful rock climbing area, perfect for beginners. Learn safety, knots, top rope belaying, and communication. Practice climbing. Night in Chamonix.
Day 2:
Further intruction at Gaillands or equivalent. Rappelling, rappel self rescue, leader belaying, and basic anchor placement are covered. Practice climbing more challenging routes. Night in Chamonix.
Day 3:
Take telepherique into mountains. Learn basic snow and ice climbing techniques. Movement on snow, self arrest, avalanche awareness, mountain weather, and basic ice axe and crampon use will be covered. Night at the Cosmiques hut, a beautiful little high mountain hotel in a pristine setting between the Aiguille du Midi and Mt Blanc du Tacul.
Day 4:
Practice snow, ice, and glacier climbing on the ascent of the North Face of Mt Blanc du Tacul, a lovely snow face of modest difficulty that leads to a wonderful summit with spectacular views. Night at Cosmiques hut.
Day 5:
Climb the aesthetic Cosmiques Arete to the summit of the Aiguille du Midi with the Vallee Blanche and Mt Blanc in the background. This climb requires both rock and ice climbing and is featured in Gaston Rebuffat's classic 100 Finest Climbs in the Mt Blanc Range. Telepherique to Chamonix.

Airfare is not included in the tour price.
Price includes guide's fee. Students pay for their own meals, lodging, and telepherique tickets (when needed). Similar courses are available upon request.
A deposit of $300.00 is required upon booking. The balance is due the first day of the course. Payment may be made in cash or with traveller's checks.
Trips scheduled Mon-Fri, July through Aug. Other schedules available upon request.
Clients provide their own transportation to and from Chamonix. (A shuttle bus is available for pickup and delivery to the Geneva airport upon request).
