Tour of the Hill capital of Kandy. Visit the Elephant Orphanage, Temple of the Tooth and Royal Botanical.
Your Itinerary
Day 1: Tour operates daily. This tour takes you to visit the elephant orphanage at Pinnawela. This is an orphanage for baby elephants set up by the National Zoological Gardens. The orphanage was established to feed, nurse & house young elephants found abandoned by their mothers. Often the young ones fall into pits & ravines in their quest for water during periods of drought. Other inmates at the orphanage are those displaced from their natural environment by development projects or those found diseased or wounded. The feeding & bath times are a treat to watch.
You will be taken to a tea factory & explained the whole process how tea leaves are plucked, dried, rolled, chopped & sieved, before being graded & packed. Visit the temple of tooth & you will be taken for lunch. Visit the Peradeniya Botanical Garden, before the British came this was a royal pleasure garden. Proceed to Colombo.
