|
| Biltmore House is located near Asheville, North Carolina. Vanderbilt heirs still privately own the enormous 19th-century family country retreat. Furnished with art treasures and antiques collected by G.W. Vanderbilt during his world travels, the French Renaissance-style chateau is a fine museum and a glimpse into life in America's Gilded Age. The 250-room mansion covers more than four acres of floor space with 65 fireplaces, 43 bathrooms, 34 bedrooms, three kitchens, a billiard room, a 10,000-volume library, a bowling alley, a gymnasium and an indoor swimming pool. |
