| The only royal residence that still retains its medieval layout, the Chateau de Vincennes, a major project of Charles V, is one of France’s most prestigious historic monuments. This fortress at the gates of Paris, surrounded by six hectares of woodland, has, for more than fifteen years, been undergoing restoration work on an exceptional scale. Considered the “Versailles of East Paris”, Vincennes is imposing, with its 50-meter-high keep, a remarkable outer wall, 1100 m long, punctuated by 9 massive towers and surrounded by a moat 27 m wide, a Gothic chapel, very similar in design to that on the Ile de la Cité. Vincennes is an exceptional historic building. |
