Fred Lawrence Whipple Observatory

The Fred Lawrence Whipple Observatory is the largest field installation of the Smithsonian Institution outside of Cambridge, and is located atop Mount Hopkins at 8,550 feet. The famous Multiple Mirror Telescope, one of the world’s largest, now has a single giant 6.5-meter mirror using the latest optical and electronic technologies.
