|
| Museum, art gallery, library and archives, Glenbow specializes in documenting the history of the settlement of Western Canada. Glenbow was founded in 1954 by oilman and philanthropist Eric L. HARVIE as an outgrowth of his personal interest in collecting memorabilia. In 1966 its assets were donated to the people of Alberta and the Glenbow-Alberta Institute was formed to administer the huge collections of artifacts, paintings, books and documents. In 1976 the government of Alberta constructed a large 8-storey structure in downtown Calgary, providing 3 floors or 8361 m2 of exhibition space. |
