|
| Port Royal was one of the earliest European settlements in North America. From 1605-1613 the colony thrived. Port Royal was originally selected by Samuel de Champlain, and owned as a fur monopoly by Pierre Dugua de Mons in 1603. The Port Royal habitation was also a place of the Order of Good Cheer as well as early cross-cultural endeavours between the French and the Mi’kmaq. The Habitation at Port-Royal National Historic Site is located at Port Royal, Nova Scotia, Canada. |
