Khan Al Khalili is one of the biggest bazaars in the Middle East, maybe in the world. The Arabs call Khan a souk sharkiat, which means a market road. But Khan Al Khalili is more than a market. It is a town of markets and shops. Everything started in the 14th century; this part of Cairo was a spot where the caravans stopped to rest and trade before they continued their journey. Eventually Khan Al Khalili changed into a Turkish bazaar that attracted salesmen and customers from the whole world.
