Korgalzhyn State Nature Reserve

| The Korgalzhin National Park is the largest preserve zone in Kazakhstan situated in 130km to the south-west of Astana and occupies the area of about 258,9 thousands hectares, and including 198.000 hectares of water land. Here is the most beautiful feather-grass steppe. The territory of preserve is the connection of two large lakes Tengiz and Korgalzhin. The word “tengiz” in its translation means “sea”. The total area of water land is 159000 hectares which is larger of Zheneva Lake area in twice, and its water mineralization exceeds the oceans salt in 5-6 times. The preserve’s flora counts about 350 kinds of plants 90% of which are grass plants. The fauna counts about 82 kinds of birds 33 of which are included in the “Red Book”, they are black lark, great bustard, crane, gyrfalcon and steppe windhover. Here is the northern nesting of the pink flamingo. |
