The Leipzig zoo was founded in 1878 and is internationally known for its efforts to help conserve endangered species. The zoo has transformed itself into one of the best zoos in the world, all the animals are kept in natural environments as close to their natural habitats as possible. The zoo has a lion`s Savannah; a tiger taiga; an African Savannah; as well as the world`s largest zoo facility for anthropoids. The zoo also houses the biggest aquarium in Germany outside of Berlin.
