Lucayan National Park is about 25 miles east of Freeport and offers visitors a new look at The Islands of The Bahamas. This 40-acre park was established in 1982 and represents six distinct ecosystems which are the Pine Forest, Blackland Coppice, Rocky Coppice, Mangrove Swamp, Whiteland Coppice and the Beach and Shoreline. Lucayan National Park is also home to the second largest underwater cave system in the world. The caves are still being explored and there are numerous special dive programs that will take cave certified scuba divers into the depths to explore these extraordinary caves.
