The painter Jaques Majorelle fell in love with Morocco in the 1920s. He settled in Marrakech to dedicate himself to his art and had an art villa built in the middle of a garden which, over the years, he filled with rare scents from the four corners of the world. He first opened the the garden to the public in 1947 and the tradition has survived him. Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Berge have worked for several years to give the garden back its mystery. It is a true botanical masterpiece, housing a small museum of Islamic art which is also well worth a visit.
