The Malá Fatra National Park is a national park in in the northern part of the Malá Fatra mountains called Krivánska Malá Fatra. It has an area of 226.3 km˛ (87.37 mi˛) and a 232.62 km˛ (89.81mi˛) buffer zone. The park was declared in 1988. Between 1967 and 1988 it was a protected landscape area. The highest point in the national park is the summit of Mt. Veľký Fatranský Kriváň - 1709 m above sea level. More than 80% of the national park area is covered by mixed forests, predominantly beech.
