Maria Island is a national park in Tasmania (Australia), 88 km (straight-line distance) northeast of Hobart or 90 kilometers by road and a subsequent ferry ride. The island has had a mixed history, including two convict eras, two industrial eras, a farming era and, finally, became the national park that it is today. Each of these eras (with exception to the farming era) were short in their time spans. The national park is a mecca for visitors providing a vast array of interests for the day tripper or longer stayer on the island.
