The McCormick Observatory is one of the astronomical observatories operated by the Astronomy Department of the University of Virginia and is situated just outside of Charlottesville, Virginia in Albemarle County on the summit of Mount Jefferson. It is named after Leander J. McCormick, who provided the funds for the telescope and observatory. Weather permitting, visitors can view celestial objects through the historic McCormick Refractor and two smaller telescopes. Visitors can also see presentations by the Astronomy Department faculty and exhibits.
