Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, located just east of Titusville, Florida, shares a common boundary with the John F. Kennedy Space Center. Its coastal location, tropic-like climate, and wide variety of habitat types contribute to Merritt Island's diverse bird population. To date, 310 bird species have been identified on the refuge. Of special interest are the breeding populations of southern bald eagles, brown pelicans, wood storks and mottled ducks.
