The Mozart family lived in Mozart`s Residence, Makartplatz 8 from 1773 to 1787. Most of the building was destroyed by a bomb in 1944, only preserving the portal entrance and the "Dancing Master`s Hall". The building was renovated by the Mozarteum Foundation to its original appearance. The earliest documentary evidence we have of Mozart`s Residence, also known as the Tanzmeisterhaus, dates back to 1617.
