The National "Big Pit" Mining Museum of Wales is a museum in Blaenavon in southern Wales which is dedicated to the Welsh heritage of coal mining which took place at the town at the "Big Pit" during the Industrial revolution. The mine reopened for visitors in 1983. Big Pit is adjacent to the preserved Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway. In 2005, it won the prestigious Gulbenkian Prize.
