The Northern Maritime Museum houses a broad collection of objects relating to shipping and shipbuilding history in the northern part of the Netherlands, from the Middle-Ages up to the present. It was opened on the 31st of May 1932 in Het Goudkantoor (the gold office) in the Waagstraat, one of the most beautiful Renaissance buildings of Groningen. The collection grew and grew in the years afterwards thanks to a lot of donations and purchases.
