The only walled city north of Mexico, Quebec was settled in 1608 as a fur trading post. Divided into two sections, Haute and Basse, the old town seems more like an island of old Europe, with winding cobblestone streets, 17th- and 18th-century buildings and churches, squares, parks and numerous monuments.
