The Rijksmuseum is a familiar Amsterdam landmark and it possesses an unrivalled collection of Dutch art, from early religious works to the masterpieces of the Dutch Golden Age. The neo-Gothic monumental building dates from 1885 and has some wonderful tile tableaus, statues and ornaments and a lovely garden. The museum is internationally renowned for its collection and exhibits works by Vermeer, Frans Hals, Jan Steen and Rembrandt's masterpiece: the Night Watch. The collection of the Rijksmuseum includes 5.000 paintings, 30.000 works of sculpture and decorative arts, 17.000 historical objects, 3.000 works of Asiatic Art and nearly 800.000 prints and drawings.
