Sutter's Fort
| |
| Sacramento's earliest Euro-American settlement, Sutter's Fort was founded by German-born Swiss immigrant John Augustus Sutter in 1839. Audio speakers give information at each stop along a self-guided tour that includes a blacksmith's shop, bakery, prison, living quarters, and livestock areas. Costumed docents sometimes reenact fort life, demonstrating crafts, food preparation, and firearms maintenance. |
