Worthwhile but pricey

This was my one big splurge on a recent trip to Sydney, and it was worth it. The views are spectacular, and you get plenty of time to enjoy them, you never feel rushed by the leader. As the other reviews say, you are firmly attached to the bridge (though I have no problem with heights, and I would have felt OK even without the belt as you are never close to the edge or without rails surrounding you). The leader gives a few snippets of information via a radio attached to your belt, and they provide you with all sorts of equipment, including raincoats, beanies, fleeces, even a hankie! I think if you are going just for the views don't bother, as climbing the pylon is nearly the same. I went more for the experience of actually climbing the bridge and standing on the top, as well as looking at it from all sorts of angles and seeing the structure. That is why it is worth doing the bridge climb as opposed to the pylon. Also, don't bother paying the extra $70 for the twilight climb unless you want your photos taken at twilight. I did the earliest night climb available, and you start off at twilight anyway, and have a great view for the first half of the climb as the darkness falls, then you get to see it all at night as well. The only other thing that bothered me was the excessive time spent taking photos, that seemed to be the main job of the tour leader, so they could make more money off you later.

It is worth a walk across this bridge!

Two weeks ago, my 8 year old daughter and I walked across the Sydney Harbour Bridge. We were staying with friends on the North Shore so took a train to Milson's Point and walked up the stairs to the bridge. The walk is easy and flat and from end to end takes approximately 20 minutes. It is very popular with joggers. On this side of the bridge, no bikes, skateboards and the like are allowed. They must travel on the western side of the bridge, so you can walk the bridge without the fear of being runover! It is security patrolled and they have security cameras along the walkway. Makes you feel secure even to walk it at nighttime. My daughter and I also decided to do the Pylon Lookout, cost was $9.50 for me and $4 for her. We spent about 30 minutes inside, learning about the bridge (I've done the bridgeclimb in the past and alot of the info the guide tells you is in the Pylon Lookout) and going to the top. The views are spectacular. So, if money is an issue and you are undecided about doing the bridgeclimb, then don't miss the Pylon Lookout. You still get the fantastic views from the top, and it only costs a fraction of the price of the climb. At the end of our day in Sydney, my daughter and I walked back across the bridge to the Milson's Point train station. So we walked it twice. I thought it was well worth doing again and to see the sights at night from the bridge. If I can give one piece of advise, it would be to walk across this bridge and stop and take photos of the Opera House etc. I wonder why I hadn't made an effort to walk this bridge on my many other trips to the city. I'll definetely do it again, next time bringing my Aussie husband, who has never walked it before either.

We booked the bridge climbed back in England, cost about L90, It's a bit pricey but very much worth it. It was blowing a gale and heavy rain on the day of our climb and YES they do go up in this weather so be warned to change your booking you have to give 7 days notice. Still we did not mind and up we went, And i'm very nervous 'of heights but are guide was very good with me and was always checking to see if i was okay. The view even in the rain was very good you could see all the harbour and all the sights that you could see on a clear day. You can't take a camera up with you for obvious reasons but they do kit you out with all weather clothes and extras like/caps/gloves/macks/fleeces/straps for shades. Your on the bridge climb for about 1.5 hrs -2.0hrs the rest of the time is kitting you out and safety instructions which goes quick. If you do one thing in sydney do the climb as it's a long way back if you don't do it

Skip the bridgeclimb, go for the Pylon

3 things put me off the bridgeclimb - The cost, $180 is a lot of cash - No camera's, I believe you get a couple of free prints but more prints = more $$$ - There are LOADS of people doing it, at one point you could see 6 groups on the bridge at once For me the hidden gem of the bridge is the Pylon Lookout. For $9, you can climb one of the concrete pylons. There is plenty of the history of the bridge on the way up, but the main event is the view from the top. Ok, so it's not as high as the bridge (I'd say it's about 1/3 of the way up), BUT you can spend as long as you like up there and take your own camera. Seriously $9 vs $180, is the bridgeclimb 20 times better?

I'd just like to say first off, that when I first came to Sydney, I looked at this and though," Who would pay so much to just climb a bridge." Little did I know that my girlfriend had already bought tickets for this. Once we made the climb, I had to eat my words. It's an amazing trek, with amazing views, and our guide made it all that much better. Full of sights, and background info/stories, this is a 'not to be missed' activity for Sydney, if you can swing the cost. I was skeptical at first, but I can honestly say I'd do it again. Cheers!
