Grinzane Cavour

Grinzane Cavour;
this castle lies to the east of the city of Alba in Piemonte, Italy.
Extensive renovations do not hide its medieval beginings. For those
interested in wine and food should note that the castle houses an excellent
restaurant, and ENOTEC, which is the Italian for their special wines sales.
For the history buff there is also a small museum.
The castello was once simply 'Grinzane', the 'Cavour' was added in honour of
a well known & local Italian writer.

Cavour was not and is not a writer! He was the Prime Minister of Piedmont (the only part of Italy in the early 1800s under an Italian dynasty) and he was one of the three architects of Italian reunification which took place in 1861 which included also the annexation of Rome in 1870.

His full name was: Camillo Benso count of Cavour. His family was of French origin but he felt (and was) very much Italian. The other two architects of Italian reunification were Giuseppe Garibaldi (the charismatic soldier) and Giuseppe Mazzini (the intellectual).

Cavour became briefly the new Prime Minister of the newly formed Italian Kingdom. He died in 1861, soon after reunification.
The castle called now Grinzane Cavour was the property of his family and his residence for a while.

(Note - The correct spelling is "ENOTECA".)

Writing

Hm!
Thank you .. writer or not, there is still (I hope}:/ ) a literary event/prizes
held in the honour of his name.
No doubt that is where I got mixed up.
Ah!
Just found the quote in Italian;
" Il castello, dal 1983, e' anche sede del Premio Letterario Grinzane Cavour, uno degli appuntamenti culturali piu importanti per la narrativa italiana e straniera ... etc".
Teach me tooread things correctly.
Peter

Er!

Sorry Gianfranco, but I am like a dog with a bone.
I must check my facts out.
And Cavour was a writer and Editor, perhaps a little known
phase of his early life. I am going to try and post a quote here;
