middle east travel
Hi,
Buying alcohol in the Middle East,, all depends on what part you are in... If it is Egypt, you will have no problem,, they are less strict than other countries... UAE,,, in Dubai you can consume alcohol.... In other countries like Iraq, Iran, and Saudi Arabia,, forget it... You dont have any business being in those countries anyway... they are not set up for tourists....and the only reason I know is because I have been both a soldier and an oil field worker in them...
Stick with Egypt for now.. and Dubai,,,, be respectful...because they are Islamic countries .... pay attention to what is going on around you and you should have no problems...
Good luck
Happy Trails

While travelling to Turkey, I was warned by a lot of people that I might become a victim of human traffic...well nothing happened, I am fine.
Another issue was the fact that turkish friends warned me to be careful with my purse and other personal belongings, again everything turned out fine but I was constantly stressed thinking of that..
easy to get robbed there?

Your Biggest Fear while travelling to Middle East
Apart from not quite knowing what people actually mean by the stupid expresion "Middle East" - is it Asia Minor? is it the Arabic part of the World? is it the Muslim and Jewish part east and south of the Mediterraenean? - I actually had no worries going to neither Turkey, Iran, Syria nor Jordan or to walk around i Bur Sa'id when my freighter called that port, and there was no reason for having any ether, apart from the fact that "everybody" in Istanbul cheats you.
Oh I'm so glad that theme like that was raised in that forum. Middle East is such a tempting Part of the World, I really want to visit it, but I've been told tones of horrible stories how it is dangerous to travel to Middle East, kidnapping, robbery, unstable political situation and many other things. So I'm confused and do not know

As long as you are careful with your belongings and you do not visit the dangerous spots of any country you visit whether in the Middle East or not , I don't think something bad might happen.

Personally I love it. I worked for a year and a half in Afghanistan (please don't go on holidays) and I really learned to appriciate the culture and experience. It was strange at times. Generally in the city they treat white women like men only they stare a little more but mostly they would never do anything offensive, but out in the country it is a little bit different. Some of them have never really seen a white woman and it is hard to see women in burkas and kept away.
