I prefer slow cooking and slow eating. To me, slow cooking and slow eating means cooking and entertaining for family and friends - those who deserve the very best and all of the love you can produce out of a kitchen.

However, that picture of the cheeseburger looked pretty tasty. I can guarantee you won't find one that looks that good at any fast food restaurant.

One can make a cheeseburger and fries at home and do it very slow. ;) ha!

If I'm right Slow food is a movement against fast food, that is like pizza, fries, hamburgers, bla bla bla...when did it start? I never heard about it or am I that ignorant? Are there many people involved?

Default Hi

According to Slowfood.usa.org Carlos Patreli, (Italian Food Journalist) "Fathered" the Slow Food Movement when, McDonalds opened one of it's restaurants in downtown Rome. Circa 1985. Patrina and a group of friends started the movement as a playful game that pitted themselves against those who they perceived to be the enemy and source of frustration, fast food! The game spread to, no other then Paris where it international Movement was founded.(like most things gastronomic) Now there are over 80,000 member world wide.
All this and much more can be found on Slowfood.org. Or check out any peer reviewed library database for more Info.

Bra.

The city of Bra, in Piemonte might argue against that.
As it likes to be thought of as the origin of 'Slow Food'.
And what on earth is that terrible picture with slow-food in the poll?
That is as far from slow food as I am from Bra at this present moment.
Dear oh dear!
And I do so agree with the comment about going and eating with family and friends.
Xmas is nearly upon us ... and now is the time to start planning that very very 'Slllllow Food'.
Ciao ciao people .... Peter(wave) .

yes..

Hi Peter,

Yes, indeed, "The Slow Food Movement was founded in the Piemonte region of Italy by Carlo Petrini in 1986 and Food seeks a rediscovery of authentic culinary traditions and conservation of the world’s quality food and wine heritage by countering the effects of technology and speed on the way we eat.

Also, the Movement is also dedicated to helping those in need, particularly children. Current projects include financial support to the kitchen of a native Brazilian hospital, two school lunch programs in Bosnia, and reconstruction aid to a local Italian cheese manufacturer, a critical economic and nutritional force in the region devastated by the 1997 earthquake." ( some information found on the net)

I didn't know about its charitable mission, very good!

Default slow food?

I have not heard of the slow food movement, I know there is a raw food movement where the food is eaten in it's natural state. The idea is that cooking removes nutrients and changes the composition of the nutrients in the foods. This does not apply to meat which should be cooked slowly and thoroughly. There is a theory that food cooked in a microwave oven becomes energetically toxic to the body. On another note, try to buy meat that is free range, or kosher where the animals are not given growth hormones, and feed on natural grasses or grains. The additives that are put in food are detrimental to your health, so try to buy food that is organic or as close to it's original state, or made with only healthy ingredients. Take a look at any kids cereal box and read the ingredients, it's not even food ! Todays food is not nutritious, it's loaded with sugar, and white flour, and preservatives. It's a wonder that we even function with all that garbage in there. No wonder there are so many children and adults that have allergies, ADD, and behavioral problems!

Default I though it meant ...

slow cooking - like ribs or Jambalaya or crock pot cooking (red beans and rice) :-`
- where you set it up and go relax, while the food cooks, without a care and finish the martini(s) or bottle of wine with appetizers - or play a game of back-gammon, cribbage or scrabble. And enjoy the time with others

And even though i cook steaks or oysters rather quickly - the other items usually take a while to get ready - and it take can several martinis before the coals are ready

hmm...
standing roast tomorrow.

Cheers

nice hamburger!

It don't seem to me like I can tell the difference between slow and fast food. Anyway the large tender juicy cheeseburger has a better appeal to me and makes my mouth water!
