Built as a Knights Castle in the 11th century Castle Waldeck is located about 100 miles north of Frankfurt. Overlooking Lake Edersee - one of the largest reservoirs in Europe - and surrounded by the “Kellerwald” – a national park – the Castle is set in a beautiful location surrounded by forests and mountains. The area is part of the German Fairy-tale Route: the Brothers Grimm collected the stories about what happened in the forests, the castles and the palaces in the area.

Part of the Castle is a dungeon museum - admission to the museum is included in the price of this package.

Nearby attractions and activities:
Not far from the Castle you find a wide variety of historic towns and beautiful places to visit. Of course, right underneath the Castle is Lake Edersee - the superb water quality of the lake invite for swimming, fishing and watersports. Less than 20 miles from the Castle is Bad Arolsen - the baroque Royal palace which dates from the 18th century, is well worth visiting as well as Fritzlar (about 15 miles from the Castle) with its St. Petri Cathedral.

Also Wilhelmshoehe Palace in midst the beautiful mountain park “Bergpark Wilhelmshohe” in Kassel (about 30 miles from the Castle) is a place you might consider visiting. On top of the mountain you find the Herkules monument. In art history “Bergpark Wilhelmshohe” is to be counted as the top of landscape gardening in the end of the 18th century, as well as a prime example of water-engineering in this time. This is why the park at the slopes of the Habichtswald mountains is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
