Uraima Falls is a lodge of rustic design, there are 12 private cabins or locally called "Churuatas", each one has two rooms with one bed in each or if you preferred you can ask for a hammock to be set up. Each private cabin has a bathroom with hot water heater. Also each room has a window that allows the cold breeze of the jungle to circulate through the interior of your accommodations. Uraima Falls is surrounded by vegetation which also provides a nice view from every angle of the lodge. A smooth layer of yellow sand is the base of the camp which give you the impression of being on a tropical beach in the middle of the rain forest.
Each aspect of the design has a meaning of being there, every one who has visited Uraima Falls leave all the complexity of daily life behind. The Paragua river is always the front view, you can go for a walk by it's sandy beaches and also go water-skiing in your free time off fishing, also the non fishing companions can go for jungle tours that we also provide to the nearest Teyues and mountains. The sightseeing of the different species of birds is another spectacle Uraima has to offer, including charter flights by the famous Angel Falls. There is always something to enjoy for every one, we have mother nature as our prime associate. In the main "Churuata" we serve 3 daily meals in a nice and quite environment, where every angler tells his stories of previous experiences to other fishing destinations. This open design is quite fresh and make the visitors feel relaxed and the sensation that they are being hosted in a private and exclusive club in the middle of the rain forest. Also there are another 2 big open design churuatas where you can have a light "siesta" in a hammock if you want before resuming your fishing activities. The nights at the lodge are very fresh and quite, you can hear the sounds of the jungle and look at the sky full of stars. 24 hours water service is available at the lodge and also electricity, this give Uraima Lodge a plus for cooling your soft drinks at the bar after a fantastic day of Payara fishing. There is an airstrip located in the other side of the island, also there is radio contact and direct access by air or by the river to the lodge from the nearest town. Also the camp is managed by it's owners, they will make you feel like home, they will give the best to make your trip more than satisfying. Uraima Falls is known for being a safe and friendly place for his visitors, this is warranted by all of our returning customers that year after year keep coming back trying to put his name in the IGFA list of worlds records for payara. Being at Uraima Falls one can be sure will experience the most challenging payara fishery in the world. You can troll in some locations and cast in others, also fishing from islands shores is an option to catch very large payara. The guide assigned to you may take you into fast water beneath the falls or in the main and quick currents of the Paragua river. You will face powerful and aggressive adversaries so be sure to have ready the appropriate tackle. Payara often can exceed 30 pounds, they strike with enormous power and can strip off line very fast. It's a good advice, take it for granted, enough lures and the right tackle is a must to fish at Uraima Falls, this is without a doubt the world capital of payara fishing. Where other camps offer payara as a sideshow to the Peacock Bass, we offer the only camp in South America exclusively geared to the Payara. The Payara can best be described as a salmon with an extremely bad attitude. Apart from the Payara you will as well encounter the fierce Aymara, another prehistoric lure crunching fighter that grows up to 40 pounds. To insure the best fishing possible, a strict catch and release policy is in effect at the lodge, thanks to this we have experienced over the years the increment in size and numbers. Here various world records have been set and broken every season, the current all tackle record (39lb 4oz) was set by one of our guests. It's advisable to have 2 sets of tackle, ready to fish, one medium rig to cast lighter baits and one heavy rig for trolling and casting bigger baits. It's a good idea to have adequate tackle ready to handle these powerful and aggressive adversaries. Payara can also come out in big sizes and they readily take cast or trolled subsurface baits. These traits, coupled with their terrific stamina not only make them a favorite of anglers but also a great consumer of lures. The head, as you can see, shows that it's not your friendly neighbor salmon. These fangs and teeth can really destroy a lure, and you know when a payara strike. Some anglers describe the attack as: "Man!, I thought a Mack Truck hit the plug!". The Weather at Uraima Lodge: Tropical temperatures prevail in Venezuela with midday temperature ranging between 85 to 100 degrees F. Generally, there is light to medium wind and an extremely intense sun throughout the day, so please be mindful of dehydration and overexposure to the sun. At night, the temperature slowly drops to 72-78 degrees F. Rain can be common throughout the week's fishing, so bring along a good quality, lightweight rain suit to avoid a cold boat ride.
