Sri Lanka Eco Lodge is as close as you can get to sustainable tourism. Solar power replaces electricity, rain water where possible is harvested and put to good use and the three R's - Reduce, Recycle, Re-use are widely practiced. The land and the produce grown on the land was certified organic by Skal-holland (the inspection body for organic produce in the Netherlands). Our guests enjoy nature, culture, adventure, privacy, peace and tranquility - as much or little of these as you prefer. And your stay with us provides employment opportunities to the local villagers, supports local schools and hospitals, promotes local arts and crafts, protects the environment and encourages local villager's participation.
All materials for the five cabanas and the dormitory which sleeps 5 were found within the five hectare/eleven acre property which houses the project. Three of them are made from mud, one from wood and one from brick (the clay was found here, formed and baked on site by the local villagers). All of the roofs are thatched coconut leaves, with necessary protection.
There are tea and coffee-making facilities in each cabana, along with hot water (collected fallen branches are used as fire-wood to heat the water) & cold water, and an open shower. Because of the cool temperature there is no need for AC or fans in the room. Clean towels, sheets and blankets are provided.
Each cabana has a spacious balcony where you can sit out and enjoy the breathtaking mountainous views. You can choose to eat your meals in the privacy of your own cabana, with butler service, or at our communal dining area.
We do expect our guests to cooperate and support our three R's philosophy (Reduce, Recycle, Re-use) during their stay as much as possible. This is simply by helping with the small things like saving electricity by switching off the lights when not in use.
