Calypso Diving Sites: Arinaga, Baja de Pasito Blanco, Artificial Reet
Arinaga
The reservation of "El Cabron" is situated nearby Arinaga, on the eastside of the island, with a medium depth of 20 m and a maximum depth of 34 m.
This area has always been a place of interest for the divers. "El Cabron" offers different spots to please any diver always according to the level of experience of each one.
Without doubt it is one of the most famous region of the Canary Islands to observe the rich and diverse fauna like murrains, barracudas, angel sharks, groupers and big concentrations of other local fishes and sometimes you even have the opportunity to see a devil ray or the admired moonfish.
A place which everybody who loves the sea has to visit at least once in order to be able to observe the beautiful spots we have in this country for the practice of this wonderful activity which is scuba diving.
Baja de Pasito Blanco
This spot is situated about 2 nautical miles from the coast, in front of Pasito Blanco harbour. With a depth between 17 and 19 m.
You will find rocky platform which arises from the fund of sand.
The most outstanding of this zone is the presence of big concentration of fishes, enormous barracudas within other species like angel sharks, rays, tiger
murrains and much more.
Artificial Reet near Pasito Blanco
Near Pasito Blanco and forming a group of five blocks, the Las Palmas University has built an artificial reef with a depth between 20 and 22 m.
The object was to create a place for the different endangered species to be able to take refuge due to uncontrolled fishing. Passing some time this sandy area has been converted in a real aquarium where now a lot of species like rays, angel sharks and others have given a colourful look to this place which before was an empty one with almost no marine life around.
