Spanish Imperial Eagles, breed now in Cadiz province for the first time in 50 years. Northern Bald Ibis are now flying on the Strait, introduced in a in an effort to save these globally rare birds. This fully backed international program initiated by the biologists at Jerez Zoo have an eight year long funded program dedicated to establish a breeding colony on the Strait of Gibraltar.
This is the only place that Osprey has been on the Iberian peninsular. The Strait is the prime birding location to watch raptor activity the whole year. With resident Black-shouldered Kite, Bonelli's Booted and Short-toed Eagles, white villages with Lesser Kestrels and forest with Goshawk, Peregrine, Merlin, Griffon and Egyptian Vultures, this area is second to none. Come and watch the spectacular autumn migration, with wave after wave of birds of prey and passerines, White and Black Storks leaving Europe and crossing over to Africa.

Years ago Stephen Daly of Andalucian Guides fell in love with this beautiful part of the Costa de la Luz with it's unspoiled charm and richness of bird life. He and his family live in the countryside between two natural parks where Sardinian Warblers, Zitting Cisticolas and Serins nest in the gardens.
During the summer nights, Red-necked Nightjars and Scop's Owl hunt in the neighboring fields and orchards while distant calls from Tawny, Barn and Little Owls can be heard in the darkness. The warm, long summers sees White-rumped, Little, Common and Pallid Swifts, Red-rumped Swallows and Bee-eaters feeding overhead and Griffon Vultures glide past catching thermal after thermal. Hoopoe cottage, our guest house is also available to rent.
Both Stephen Daly and Stephen Knapp will be happy to show you all the recognized birding areas and lots of others besides, that are either private estates or areas of land normally out of bounds to the general public.
