Southern Game Trails specialises in small personalised safaris (maximum 6 people a week) tailored to the individual. We make every effort to ensure that your stay in the Southern Kalahari is both welcoming and different - a trip that you will not have even dreamt of before.
Our attitude is very much ‘lets create a tailored safari for you’ – wildlife is in abundance and can make for some very challenging stalking, accompanied by a professional guide. Either creeping through the bush (can be fairly spikey!) or driving in comfort in one of our Landcruisers, the buzz of seeing an animal up close and totally wild cannot be forgotten. The biodiversity at Weltevreden is amazing from the largest of birdlife on the planet, or the massive greater kudu to the dainty steenbok or the flocks of delicately purpled mouse birds.
We have a wide selection of estate rifles that are available for use by those who would like to hunt. For those who would like to bring their own rifles in the .300 calibre range are most suited, something between .270 and .375 is ideal. For those wishing to birdshoot a 12 gauge shotgun is the most appropriate. Temporary import permits are issued at the port of entry.
The whole set-up is based around our brand new safari camp – thatched accommodation with an original South African feel to it, and a cosy bar/living area that is open for all to relax in. After a sumptuous breakfast, an average day can consist of a combination of events - photographic or hunting safaris, lunch out in the velt (game area) and sundowners at the end of the day, admiring the awesome sunsets. At the end of the day, you can soak in a hot bath with a drink, or chat around the camp fire under the stars – whist our friendly staff look after all your needs.
Weltevreden is reached by flying into Johannesburg or Cape Town and then a short hop to Kimberley, where you’ll be met by our friendly staff for the drive to the reserve. All relevant documentation and entry requirements are dealt with before your departure and advice is provided as to what to bring and medical requirements for the trip.
