This one day Lower New River raft trip is the same as The Classic Lower New, but it starts in the afternoon instead of the morning. The late afternoon and early evening have a mystical and quiet quality to them - and a little less chance for sunburn! This trip is also a bonus for those who'd rather drive in the morning instead of the evening before the trip. Dinner is served upon your return (instead of our riverside lunch) allowing you to enjoy a rim-side view of our glorious sunset while you dine! Minimum age for this trip is 12.

One of the oldest rivers in North America, the river flows through a rugged canyon up to 1300 feet in depth exposing rocks as old as 330 million years while passing through an area rich in coal mining history. Squeezing down between rugged mountains, the river alternates from Class III-V rapids to pools perfect for swimming. Upper and Lower Railroad, the Keeneys, Miller's Folly and Double Z are among the many rapids that lie in wait.

What to Expect:

Arrive at Class VI, make sure you've had a bite to eat, or for groups of 10 or more, ask about our catered lunches..

Check-in with your Trip Leader and fill out release forms (minors unattended by legal guardians must bring a signed Class VI release form day of trip).

Change into your river wear, grab a life jacket and helmet, then load up and head for the river.

Approximate 45 minute bus ride to put-in depending on water levels.

On route or at put-in, your trip leader and guide deliver a safety talk covering the fundamentals of rafting and proper use of river equipment.

Midway down the river we stop to have a snack and a cold drink.

At the take-out point, the gear is loaded onto our vehicles and we head back to Class VI while enjoying a complimentary beverage.

Back at Class VI enjoy a hot shower, shop at our Canyon Rim Store, take a stroll to our scenic overlook and enjoy your buffet dinner at Smokey's On The Gorge - all located at Class VI's canyon rim facility.
