The Dueling Rivers package is our response to the most commonly asked question: ,,Which river is better, the New or the Gauley?” We give you the opportunity to paddle the best river section running, on two different rivers, in two action-packed days in the best type of boat for the river level. If river levels and conditions are just right, sometimes we switch the order of the trips to catch the best ride out there. Minimum age for this trip is 15.
The first day of rafting is generally on the Lower New River where you'll raft anywhere from a Class I to a Class V rapid. Calm pools preceding big drops characterize this section of river and we float under the New River Gorge Bridge in the 14' Avon Adventurer self-bailing raft. This raft generally holds up to seven people plus the guide. The second day of rafting with the Dueling Rivers package is generally on the Gauley River. The section of the Gauley River paddled is dependent upon how much water is released from Summersville Dam and the input of side streams. Generally, April and May are usually the higher water months for our water shed than June through September. Because of this, it is likely that we will be in rafts in April and May. However, there is the possibility that the water level will determine the use of one-person duckies (inflatable kayaks) on the Middle section of the Gauley River. Ducky trips provide a one-on-one experience with the river while still allowing you to enjoy the company of other people on the trip. Each person is provided with their own ducky to maneuver down the river while the guides on the trip also paddle along in their own duckies. What to Expect: Arrive at Class VI to a complimentary reception of Starbuck's coffee and juice in Chetty's Pub. Chetty's offers an assortment of a' la carte breakfast items. Both days you will check-in with your Trip Leader and fill out release forms (minors unattended by legal guardians must bring a signed Class VI release form day of trip). Change into your river wear, grab a life jacket and helmet, then load up and head for the river. Approximate 45 minute bus ride to put-in depending on water levels. On route or at put-in, your trip leader and guide deliver a safety talk covering the fundamentals of rafting and proper use of river equipment. Enjoy our deli lunch part way down the river. At the take-out point, the gear is loaded onto our vehicles and we head back to Class VI while enjoying a complimentary beverage. Back at Class VI enjoy a hot shower (don't forget your towel), shop at our Canyon Rim Store, take a stroll to our scenic overlook and dine at Smokey's On The Gorge - all located at Class VI's canyon rim facility.
