We offer wilderness hunting Safaris in Southern Africa - on horseback. If you are a hunter for the experience of the hunt - this is for you. Tailor made safaris for groups of no more than 4 hunters for any species of game. We also offer wing shooting, fly-fishing or combination safaris. Come and enjoy Africa the way the early pioneers did for a experience of a lifetime.
You need to be fit and have sound knowledge of horse riding in difficult terrain. Video available on request. You tell us what you would like to hunt or which area you would like to hunt in and we do the rest. A typical hunting safari could go as follows: Deon recently came out from Canada and wanted to hunt in the Drakensberg mountains. We obtained a concession to hunt in a wilderness area 300000ha big with no infrastructure or access.
We rode in to the area for 7 days shooting wild mountain partridge over English Pointers and stalking wild mountain Rhebok. Our quota was 1 ram for the entire trip. Deon wanted a good trophy so we stalked an average of 5 groups each day. The temperatures dropped to -20degrees Celsius each night, but fortified by great South African wines and Malt whiskeys we were reasonably comfortable.
We took 5 horses – a horse for Deon, one for myself, a groom/tracker’s horse, 1 pack horse and a spare riding horse. Each night we camped in a different spot and hunted the surrounding mountains. At an altitude of 3200m above sea level and riding an average of 50km per day we needed to be fit and appreciated the training we had done in preparation of the trip. The horses that we ride are small sturdy mountain horses, sure footed strong with great temperaments.
