Relax into the refreshing rhythm of nature by combining the joys of rafting and camping on the Two Day Lower New trip. This trip can vary in length from two to three days and covers different sections of the New River - the Upper and/or the Lower. Minimum age for this trip is 12.
The Lower New River flows through an immense gorge with extremely rugged mountains and cliffs in view and also features the New River Gorge Bridge. Characterized by big drops and big waves (Class I - V) in a pool/drop system where calm pools precede the big drops, the Lower New River maintains the best white water flows in the East. Some of the major rapids are Upper and Lower Trestle, the Keeney's, Double Z, Miller's Folly, and Fayette Station. The choice of river craft is dependent upon the section of the river and the interests of you, the guest. On the first day of the Two Day Lower New trip, single and double duckies (inflatable kayaks) or rafts are used to venture down the river. Guided 14' or 16' rafts are used for the Lower New River Gorge. What to Expect: Arrive at Class VI to a complimentary reception of Starbuck's coffee and juice in Chetty's Pub. Chetty's offers an assortment of a' la carte breakfast items. Check-in with your Trip Leader and fill out release forms (minors unattended by legal guardians must bring a signed Class VI release form day of trip). Change into your river wear, pack your gear into our dry bags, grab a life jacket and helmet, then load up and head for the river. All gear and food for the trip are carried with the trip in a supply raft. Approximate 45 minute bus ride to put-in depending on water levels. On route or at put-in, your trip leader and guide deliver a safety talk covering the fundamentals of rafting and proper use of river equipment. Enjoy our deli-style lunch part way down the river on both days. Late afternoon, pull over and set up camp alongside the river, while your guide prepares dinner. The next morning after breakfast, you'll break camp, load the gear and head down river. At the take-out point, the gear is loaded onto our vehicles and we head back to Class VI while enjoying a complimentary beverage. Back at Class VI enjoy a hot shower, shop at our Canyon Rim Store, take a stroll to our scenic overlook and enjoy a buffet dinner at Smokey's On The Gorge - all located at Class VI's canyon rim facility.
