The Lower New River flows through an immense gorge with extremely rugged mountains and cliffs in view and also features the New River Gorge Bridge. Characterized by big drops and big waves (Class I - V) in a pool/drop system where calm pools precede the big drops, the Lower New River maintains the best white water flows in the East. Some of the major rapids are Upper and Lower Trestle, the Keeney's, Double Z, Miller's Folly, and Fayette Station.
The choice of river craft is dependent upon the section of the river and the interests of you, the guest. On the first day of the Two Day Lower New trip, single and double duckies (inflatable kayaks) or rafts are used to venture down the river. Guided 14' or 16' rafts are used for the Lower New River Gorge.
