Maine's mile high Mount Katahdin provides the backdrop for the Maine's most challenging stretch of class V whitewater rafting. In the first two miles the Penobscot River rushes through the spectacular Ripogenus Gorge. On this section whitewater rapids like "Exterminator", and "Fist of God" live up to their names. The "Crib Works" rapid is solid class V whitewater. This stretch of white water is the most challenging commercial whitewater rafting trip in Maine as well as New England. We stop at the Big Eddy to pick up our younger rafters. From here to the take out, the Penobscot River flows through Maine's Baxter State Park. The next 14 miles of the Penobscot River alternates between class III + and IV whitewater. Highlights of the day include the 12 foot high water fall rapid "Nesowadnehunk Falls", and a sizzling steak and chicken barbeque. Wildlife is abundant and sightings of moose and eagles are not uncommon. A Thrilling Maine Whitewater Adventure!
Funyak Maine’s Penobscot River Seboomic Ledges:
This is perhaps the most challenging and fun of all the Maine funyak trips. Be as adventurous as you want while paddling the class I-IV whitewater rapids on the Seboomic Ledges section of the Penobscot River. The trip is roughly five miles long and we kayak it twice. One guide is provided for every seven funyaker, prior Maine whitewater experience is a must. This trip is available to groups of 8 or more, includes picnic lunch. Whitewater rafts available upon request.
Penobscot Overnights & Two Day Adventures:
If you are looking for the ultimate in two-day adventures try our Penobscot Two-Days. The first day we challenge the exciting class I-IV rapids of the Seboomic Ledges in inflatable kayaks or small rafts. This is the most challenging of all our Maine Funyak trips. The second day we raft the class V Penobscot River through Ripogenus Gorge. You can also do the whole Penobscot River trip and then return for the second day and whitewater raft the bigger rapids twice. This is a world class-whitewater rafting trip in the vast Maine wilderness.
Penobscot River "Double Trouble!"
Experience two runs through the class V whitewater rapids of the Ripogenus Gorge and Crib Works. The whitewater action is nonstop, fast and furious! Prior whitewater rafting experience is required.
