Our programs emphasize top-rope climbing where the rope is anchored by the instructor at the top of each climb. Students learn to climb and belay (protect each other with the rope) as well as to move smoothly and with minimal effort on the rock. Our progression, from novice clinic to climbing days to intermediate clinic, is designed to help students learn to climb competently on their own. Our low student-to-instructor ratio of 6-to-1 provides maximum learning and enjoyment for all students. Our instructors are experienced climbers with a desire to pass their knowledge on to their students.

We offer clinics tailored just for you. Our Parent/Child clinics are a great way for families to spend time together while learning a new sport. They are for children between 10 and 16 and one or both parents. See our clinic schedule below for dates.

Novice I Clinics:

Our one- and two-day novice clinics introduce the sport and teach the proper techniques and use of equipment so that students will be able to participate in a top-rope climbing experience. We will travel to a local climbing site where we will first work on the skills needed to climb responsibly and efficiently and then enjoy a selection of appropriate climbs to work on moving on rock. Belaying, bouldering, knot tying and efficient climbing technique will be covered.

Novice II Climbing Days:

Novice II Climbing Days provide an opportunity for climbers with some experience in a rock gym or outdoors and those who have taken classes previously at Zoar to gain more experience on the rock under the guidance of instructors who will set up and monitor the climbs. Participants should be able to tie in and belay competently and must show that they have had previous instruction from a known club or climbing school.

Intermediate Clinics:

The purpose of these clinics is to teach the technical skills necessary for students to set up their own top-rope climbs. We focus on the technical aspects of climbing in order to ensure that students have the opportunity to learn enough to responsibly climb on their own.

Day one begins with the instructors demonstrating a safe top-rope setup. We then cover the knots, equipment and strategies needed in that setup and practice in small groups with the guidance of an instructor. Day two finds us in a different location with students setting up climbs on their own and getting feedback from the instructors.

Kids Climbing Craze:

Kids love to climb. With this one-day clinic, kids ages 10-15 get a chance to try rock climbing in a fun learning environment. We will teach proper technique and use of equipment so the students will be able to participate in a top-rope climbing experience. This is a great opportunity for kids to meet other kids who love the outdoors.

Novice II Climbing Days: $115.00;
Intermediate Clinics: 2-day midweek $195.00 weekend $215.00;
