Bodrum, the ancient Halikarnassos, is one of the oldest and most attractive coastal towns of Turkey.
The Turkish people themselves love to call Bodrum the “St.Tropez” of Turkey, as in the high season Bodrum is the favourite meeting spot, where local as well as foreign “High society” come together. Bodrum’s landmark is “Bodrum Castle”, a castle built by the Knights Templar, which was handed over without any battle, after Rhodos was conquered by the Osmans, and therefore remained in almost perfect condition. Nowadays the castle holds a very interesting underwater museum, where some artefacts are more than 3000 years old. We guarantee that you won’t get bored in Bodrum: you’ll find a big variety of nightlife entertainment to choose from, fancy and exquisite discos like the “Halikarnas”, typical local Turkish tea houses as well as all different types of restaurants, pubs, bars and cafés, in order to fulfil all your needs. East of Bodrum, the gulf of Gokova, with a length of 50 sm, cuts deeply into the interior of the country from west to east. Along both shores down to the coastline the gulf is covered with dense forest. On both of the shores, the north shore as well as the south shore, there are numerous bays with or without taverns. Being well protected, no matter what weather conditions exist, crystal-clear waters are inviting you to take a swim or to enjoy some snorkelling or sea kayaking Steady winds and moderate swells guarantee a true sailing pleasure, suitable for all holidaymakers including families. North-west of Bodrum the gulf of Gulluk offers a completely different sailing area, with fewer bays, but many small villages with little typical fishing ports and wind forces of 5 Bft. and more nearly throughout the year. Cutting approx. 25 sm towards the east into the country’s interior, the gulf offers many well protected anchoring bays, as well as a port, Gulluk, which is mainly an industrial port and a charter base, but also port of entry. Heading towards the south you’ll find yourself right in the midst of the Greek islands. Only 3 sm away is Kos, the port of entry and these days traffic between the borderlines doesn’t cause any problems at all. Islands such as Nisyros,Rhodes, Tilos, Astipalaya, Kalymnosand Patmos will attract you with all kinds of culinary and historical highlights. Member discount: Notes:
