Game Drives
An open landcruiser comfortably seating 10 people is used for these events. The morning game drive departs between 6am and 7am seasonally. The afternoon game drive departs between 3pm and 4pm.The drives are 3hrs of fantastic bush experience where the rangers enlighten you on all aspects of nature.
Game drives take place on the Phongolo Nature Reserve, the neighboring National Reserve, which is the first Reserve to be proclaimed in Africa by Paul Kruger in 1894. The Reserve has an excellent population of wild life from white rhino, wildebeest, zebra, warthog, giraffe to a wide variety of antelope not to ment on the 350+ species of birds.
Guided Rhino Walk
Many guests enjoy stretching their legs where they encounter game and especially the 'prehistoric looking' rhino on foot. The trails are not strenuous and therefore enjoyable for all fitness levels.
Elephant Monitoring
AAn educational activity where visitors learn about and gain an understanding of the Pongola Game Reserve elephants and the challenges facing their future in our fence and protected areas. Join Bradley, the tracker, who is monitoring this family of elephants who were translocated here in 1997.
Mountain Biking
Let's get energetic! Available for 3 guests, who are accompanied by a guide. Cycle up gentle slopes, through muddy streams, or open grass plains. Just you, your bicycle and the surrounding wilderness.
Botanical Mountain Hike
Rated as Grade 2 (toughest is Grade 5), this 4km hike starts at the foot of the Lebombo Mountains and traverses towards a cove. Digs Pasco, your guide tells you the interesting history of the Pongola Game Reserve, Dingaan's Grave and the Border Cave among them, and of course of the Flora and Fauna that you see.
Tour The Pongolapoort Dam Wall
This tour enlightens you of the Makatini Flats irrigation system and the workings of the Dam Wall, which was built in 1969, and is at the end of the Gorge between the Lebombo Mountains.
Gem Stone Trail
A long trail suggested for the fairly fit person, rated Grade 3, walk across the mountain picking up your own gemstones. The trail ends at a gemstone mine.
