Outdoor training can be a powerful means of developing self-understanding and interpersonal skills. The experience can help to resolve a workforce issue and build a valuable team in a day. Teamwork is such a vital component in sailing that the sport offers a fantastic opportunity to maximise efficiency and synergy. Sailing provides an ideal catalyst to improve staff teamwork. Our experienced skipper will set tasks that will challenge your team, requiring them to make quick decisions when mentally and physically pressured. The day will emphasise the need for communication, leadership & planning.
Typical team building tasks include:
Sailing treasure hunt – The crew are required to navigate and sail the boat around a series of fixed buoys, each worth a certain number of points. The most points will be collected by plotting the quickest route around the most ‘point-worthy’ marks in the time allowed.
Time trial – the team will be required to perform a set number of tasks as efficiently as possible. For example, they may be asked to hoist and set a spinnaker, then gybe it as many times as possible between two fixed marks.
Racing – the ultimate in competitive sailing and team work. Participate in one of the many inter-industry regattas on the South Coast or have your own race regatta specifically tailored for your company.
No previous sailing experience is required as our skippers are used to starting from the beginning, patiently building up levels of skill. Within one day staff members will meet challenges ranging from knot tying and sail changing to using sophisticated on board navigation equipment.
