This is an advanced course in navigation, seamanship and meteorology for candidates for the Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate of Competence.
RYA Coastal Skipper Practical
Previous Experience Required: RYA Dayskipper Practical plus RYA Coastal Skipper shorebased or equivalent.(Minimum of 15 days seatime - 2 as skipper, 300 miles and 8 night hours). This is an advanced skippering course for yachtsmen and women who have considerable knowledge of sailing and navigation and are usually aspiring towards a Certificate of Competence. It is expected that you have attended the Coastal Skipper/ Yachtmaster Offshore Shorebased theory course since your instructor will not have time to teach you theory during the week.
Coastal Skippers should be able to undertake more difficult passages by day and night and handle the yacht in more demanding situations. By the end of the course you should have the knowledge, if not the experience, to become a Yachtmaster. The course, like the Day Skipper, consists of skippered passages by each of the trainees in a whole variety of situations. It is a challenging but very rewarding week. These offshore courses are taught aboard our Beneteau 40.7 and Beneteau 47.7 yachts.
Ability after Course: To be able to skipper a yacht on coastal passages by day and by night. On completion of this course you may be ready to sit for your "RYA - Coastal Skipper Certificate of Competence". Liaise with your instructor and, if required, we would be happy to arrange the exam for you.
