„The reason why I love the sea I cannot explain. It’s physical. When you dive you begin to feel like an angel.” - Jacques Yves Cousteau

We aim to provide a new experience - whether you are a seasoned diver or a beginner. Relaxed diving in the unspoiled and unexplored southwest of the Republic of Ireland, learning how to dive through the PADI system, diving on uncrowded sites and learning about the marine flora and fauna of this unique region are some of the opportunities we can provide. Linking diving with education and conservation makes us the dive experience with a difference.

We wish to provide the opportunity for non divers to enjoy the unique environment of west Cork as well. Through our sister organization Atlantic English a wide range of other activities can be arranged locally. We also run dive trips to numerous wrecks and reefs including the Fastnet.

We will help you to increase your knowledge of marine ecology while enjoying the diving and the surrounding area. The owner/director Peter McDonnell is a marine biologist, has worked for several years as a scientific research assistant for Bord Iascaigh Mhara, was a Scientific adviser to Greenpeace Ireland, field assistant toAPEC Nepal and is a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor and qualified scientific diver.

If you have a passion for the environment, want a personal experience with small numbers of divers, want to increase your knowledge of what you see, wish to learn to dive - we can help.

We hope to provide a resource through its news and links to divers and non divers alike with an interest in the environment and conservation. In the future it is hoped that we will develop some ongoing marine biology projects which visiting divers can be involved in. A percentage of our profits will be given to non governmental organizations concerned with environmental protection and conservation.

PADI Diving Courses

There is a course or program to suit everyone. Maybe you would just like to see what it is like breathing underwater and meet some of the oceans inhabitants - if so we can help. Perhaps you are already a diver but would like to continue your diving education.

All PADI courses are available up to dive master level. The emphasis is on mastery of technique and knowledge development not speed of completion of the course.

Discover Scuba Diving

This is a full day experience program. You’ll learn some important diving skills and the course can be credited towards your open water course if you wish to become a qualified diver. A brief theory session begins the day, followed by a video then into the sea to practise a couple of diving skills. After a break for lunch we head back to the sea for a dive where you will see some of the plants and animals that inhabit the near shore environment of West Cork.

Open Water Diver

If you want to become a qualified diver - this is the course to follow. Qualification as a PADI Open Water Diver opens the world’s diving to you. With this certification you can dive anywhere in the world. The course takes a minimum of five days to complete.

It consists of five theory modules covered through self-study, knowledge development sessions with your instructor and a series of videos and quizzes and the final exam.

You will develop your diving skills through a series of confined water sessions where all the skills required to dive safely will be practiced and mastered. Finally, there are four open water dives (optional fifth skin dive) to complete your training. Now your life as a diver has begun.

Advanced Open Water

The Advanced Open Water program gives you the chance to ‘have a go’ at a number of more specialized diving activities under the supervision of your instructor.

There are a number of ways of gaining this level of certification. If you undertake the course you will complete five dives. Two of these dives are essential and three dives of your choice are made from the following: the core dives orient the students to the fundamentals of advanced diving. The core dives are Deep and Navigation.

Choose three of the following elective dives: aware fish identification, boat diving, drift diving, dry suit diving, multilevel diving, night diving, peak performance buoyancy, search and recovery, underwater naturalist, underwater photography, underwater videography and wreck diving.

The advanced Plus program includes seven elective dives and the Medic First Aid course. In addition there a number of advanced diving knowledge requirements to be complete prior to certification at this level.

Theory for the advanced diver course is covered in the Adventures in Diving Manual. A chapter covers each of the core and elective dives. Knowledge reviews at the end of each chapter will be completed by students and assessed by the instructor before the dives take place.

Other courses offered by us include PADI Rescue Diver and Divemaster details of which can be provided on request.
